The Samish Indian Nation Sends a Delegation to Narayan-Mar, Russia

March 10, 2018

The Samish Indian Nation Department of Natural Resources applied for and received a grant from the U.S. State Department to fund travel to Russia for an exchange with the Nenets people, an indigenous group which lives north of the Arctic Circle. The grant funds a three-person delegation to travel to the Nenets Autonomous Okrug to exchange cultural, environmental, and economic information.

I will be traveling with two other Samish tribal members, Kelly Hall and Toby McLeod, who also both work for the tribe. Kelly works in the Chelángen (Culture) Department as a Language Specialist and Toby works in Natural Resources as a DNR Technician. We will be in Narayan-mar, a small city in the area, for two weeks. It will take us about two days to get there. We will fly to Paris, change planes, then on to Moscow. We will spend the night Moscow, then fly to Narayan-mar the next day. I’m hoping we will get to see at least a little of Moscow while we are there.

  1. I’m so unbelievably excited you three are taking this adventure and being ambassadors of our Samish culture with the Nenets people.
